Depository Services
The CCASS Depository accepts deposits of eligible securities from participants for settlement and safe custody. Normally, the stocks deposited by a participant (other than investor participant) are credited immediately to the participant's stock accounts in CCASS. Participants are responsible to HKSCC for the good title of the securities they deposit into the CCASS Depository.
Each participant (other than investor participant) is allocated one stock clearing account, one entitlement account and fifteen stock segregated accounts. Reports showing the details of movements of stock in these accounts are available to the participants through their CCASS terminals.
Shares held in the CCASS Depository are registered in the name of HKSCC Nominees Limited, the common nominee. They are fungible, and not earmarked for a particular participant. This does not change the beneficial ownership of the shares. Participants (other than investor participants) are able to continue settling their delivery obligations in CCASS, even when the share certificates have been submitted for registration into the name of the common nominee. Participants may withdraw against their available CCASS stock balances and obtain stock certificates from the Depository.
The depository facilities include a service counters hall and a vault with a capacity for over 15 million share certificates.
Stock Segregated Accounts with Statement Service
In addition to their other stock accounts, stock segregated accounts with statement service are available to all CCASS Clearing and Custodian Participants. A small fee is charged each month for each segregated account with statement service operated by a participant.
CCASS participants control and operate their stock segregated accounts, but may authorise HKSCC to send Activity Statements and Monthly Statements directly to their clients or any person designated by them.
The designated recipient receives an Activity Statement when there has been stock movement and/or activities in the stock segregated account and a Monthly Statement even when there is a zero balance or no movement during the month.
Designating recipients to receive a statement of account does not affect the relationship between CCASS participants and the recipients or between CCASS participants and HKSCC. HKSCC continues to deal only with participants on a principal to principal basis.
