The Listing Committee led its first corporate social responsibility (CSR) event, “Pedal Power”, on 28 May this year by cycling to raise funds to sponsor local secondary-school students’ participation in five-day leadership courses with Outward Bound.

Fifty-one cyclists including members of the Listing Committee and their families, staff of HKEx’s Listing Division and a member of the HKEx Board pedalled 18 kilometres on a hot, sunny day to give back to the community.

Teresa Ko, Chairman of the Listing Committee, said, “Pedal Power was a fantastic effort by all involved.  It demonstrated the Listing Committee’s commitment to CSR, leading by example and empowering the next generation.  Participation in Outward Bound programmes can be transformational, giving youth the leadership skills and the confidence to live meaningful lives and participate in our society.”

John D’Almeida, Executive Director of Outward Bound Hong Kong, said, “The event raised funds to allow local secondary-school students the opportunity to attend Outward Bound development programmes that help participants develop self-confidence, cohesiveness and a greater sense of personal responsibility, ultimately enabling them to unlock their potential and become the best they can be.”

The inaugural Pedal Power event is expected to raise more than $800,000.

The Listing Committee will establish a sub-committee to work with Outward Bound in setting the selection criteria for the recipients of the funds raised to ensure students who participate in the leadership training courses will come from local secondary schools that would not otherwise participate in this sort of programme because of shortage of funding.
