HKEx Gives Back to the Community during Give & Gain Day 2011

Corporate
28 Jun 2011

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) took part in the annual Give & Gain Day, an international employee volunteering movement aimed at mobilising employees to serve the community by volunteering during work hours.  The campaign in Hong Kong was organised by Community Business Limited with participating companies encouraging their employees to give back to the community from 18 to 26 June 2011.

HKExs Give & Gain Day Activities

On 21 June, HKEx partnered with TREATS to organise a one-day Community Exploration Programme for nearly 40 children, some with special needs, to promote social integration.  The programme allowed the children to experience community life through small group activities in Central led by HKEx volunteers.  HKEx Chief Executive Charles Li met the children at the Exchange Exhibition Hall and Auditorium where they learned about the history and operation of the Exchange and played games with HKEx volunteers.

On 23 and 24 June, HKEx sponsored and provided volunteers to support a financial literacy programme which benefited over 150 children from Laichikok Catholic Primary School.  The programme, launched by the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, used a series of simulation exercises and group discussions to help the children develop sound and responsible money management practices.  Parents of the children were also involved in a discussion about the importance of passing down good money management habits to their children.

Then, on 25 June, HKEx volunteers spent an afternoon giving care and support to the residents of Barnabas Lamma Island Drug Rehabilitation Centre by joining them in the Organic Farming and New Life Project organised by Barnabas Charitable Service Association and Produce Green Foundation.  HKEx volunteers visited the organic farm tended by the residents and learned about their organic farming techniques and life at the centre.

A total of 55 HKEx volunteers contributed over 280 service hours to support the above activities.

HKEx’s involvement in Give & Gain Day is an important element of its Corporate Social Responsibility Vision to be a responsible corporate citizen and to promote the development of socially responsible practices in the marketplace and community.
