HKEx Launches New Game on SIMart
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) today announced the launch of a new game on the Simulated Investment Market (SIMart), a platform for the hosting of online investment and trading games. The new game follows the successful Trial Run on SIMart in April this year which attracted more than 800 registrations.
HKEx is offering the new game on SIMart in response to public demand for more information on the selection of financial instruments for an investment portfolio and the basics of online trading, which is a growing trend in the international financial markets. SIMart simulates the main features of the securities market and provides an opportunity for players to learn more about and test trade HKEx products through a familiarisation process which does not involve real money.
The upcoming investment game will commence on 16 August and end on 31 August. Players will be able to trade the top 10stocks in terms of turnover value for June this year and any corresponding derivative put warrants listed on or before 30 June this year with maturity dates beyond August this year. (Please refer to the attached Appendix for the list of the 53 tradable securities)
SIMart is located at website www.simart.com.hk and is now open for registration. Interested players can register and log in at any time, but the system will not be available at the following times during the game period: between4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday and from 4:30 p.m. on Sunday to 6:00 a.m. on Monday. Players who participated in the Trial Run have to register again if they wish to take part in the upcoming game. Those who are interested are encouraged to register for the upcoming game at their earliest convenience as the number of participants is limited.
Appendix:
1. Background Information on the Game
At the start of the game, each player's account will be credited with fictitious money in the amount of $1,000,000. Although prices of securities available for SIMart players will be delayed, all orders entered will be matched with real-time market prices during normal trading hours irrespective of market depth. For simplicity purposes, transaction costs will not be taken into account by SIMart. Players' portfolios will be updated on a real-time basis and players will be able to view and download their own account statements.
