HKEX Supports Mainland Roadshow for Stock Connect Stocks

Mutual Market
14 Apr 2016

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has been encouraging Hong Kong-listed companies to enhance their transparency and their communication with investors.  Today (Thursday) HKEX supported the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association's (HKIRA) first-ever roadshow in the Mainland as the HKIRA took a delegation of Hong Kong-listed companies to Shanghai to meet with leading Mainland brokers' research houses.

The event brought together senior management of 25 Hong Kong-listed companies with shares eligible for trading through the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect programme (Stock Connect) and over 150 research analysts from 16 leading Mainland brokerage firms.

The objectives of this week's two-day (14 and 15 April) HKIRA roadshow is to strengthen Mainland investors' understanding of Hong Kong-listed companies through insightful and in-depth research reports, and to encourage companies whose shares are eligible for Southbound trading through Stock Connect (Southbound stocks) to do investor relations work on the Mainland.

"As the Stock Exchange operator, we strive to connect Mainland research houses with Hong Kong-listed companies, and encourage the former to issue more research reports covering Hong Kong stocks," said Mao Zhirong, Managing Director and Head of Mainland Affairs at HKEX.  "Since the launch of Stock Connect in November 2014, we have seen a steady increase in Mainland investors' participation.  We now see an imminent need for companies of Southbound stocks to commit more resources in meeting with Mainland investors.  We are committed in facilitating the communication between the Mainland brokers and the Hong Kong listed companies."

Besides public presentations, 120 one-on-one meetings between the companies in the roadshow and Mainland brokers were arranged for today and tomorrow.

In the next few months, HKEX will be involved in a number of key investor relations initiatives to connect Southbound stocks with Mainland brokers.
