Programme Overview

Stock Connect is a pilot programme established upon the Mutual Market Access model. For the first time ever, investors in the Mainland China and Hong Kong markets are able to have direct access to each other’s stock markets.

Eligibility

Stock Connect is a Mutual Market Access programme through which investors in the Mainland China and Hong Kong can trade and settle shares listed on the other market via the stock exchanges and clearing houses in their home market.

Trading Arrangements

A key feature of Stock Connect is “home market rules apply” to the extent feasible. Therefore, the trading hours for Hong Kong investors’ cross-boundary trades under the scheme follow the Mainland stock markets’ trading hours.

Quota System

There is a daily quota system to control the size of cross-boundary fund flows under Stock Connect.

Market Information

Under Stock Connect, Hong Kong and overseas investors and their brokers can source market data through information vendors and public websites.

Investor Protection

The design of Stock Connect follows key principles that ensure minimum changes to the regulatory structure in each market. Hong Kong-listed companies continue to be governed by the Hong Kong Listing Rules, while Shanghai-listed and Shenzhen-listed companies are governed by their Listing Rules respectively.
