Action against two registered persons

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong announces that on 19 April 1999, the Disciplinary Committee heard the following two cases and found the charge preferred against each of the following registered persons of the Exchange for breach of the Rules of the Exchange proved:-

1.

The Case of Mr Chung Hung Chong ("Mr Chung")


The substance of the charge proved against Mr Chung was that in September 1997, Mr Chung, being an Authorised Clerk of his former employer, had engaged in trading malpractices through his account and a nominee account in the name of his wife opened at his former employer.


The Disciplinary Committee, having considered all the information before it including the penalties imposed in previous cases and Mr Chung's representation, resolved that a penalty of public censure plus a fine of HK$4,000 be imposed on Mr Chung.

2.

The Case of Mr Lee Ying Kit ("Mr Lee")



The substance of the charge proved against Mr Lee was that during the period 4 November 1997 to 12 November 1997, Mr Lee had conducted unauthorised tradings in a client's cash account, resulting in a loss of HK$1,120,394.78 in the account.

The Disciplinary Committee, having considered all the information before it including Mr Lee's submission, resolved that a penalty of public censure plus a fine of HK$40,000 be imposed on Mr Lee.
