The Exchange appoints Hewlett-Packard as the System Integrator for its Electronic Transaction and Information Processing System

09 Aug 1999

The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong today (Monday) announced that it had appointed Hewlett-Packard Hong Kong Ltd as the system integrator for its Electronic Transaction and Information Processing (ETIP) System.

After the ETIP System comes into service at the end of 2000, submission of information/documents to the Exchange’s Listing Division and its responses will be by electronic means through an extranet with an interactive interface.  This extranet will be a closed and secured web only accessible through a dial-up server of the Exchange.

The extranet can be viewed as a substitute to today’s fax line and a more secure means of submitting documents to the Exchange.  All correspondence, announcements, circulars, listing documents and prospectuses from listed issuers or market practitioners requiring clearance from the Listing Division will be dispatched to, and commented on by, the Listing Division electronically via the extranet.

“We strongly believe that the improvements to our communication channel brought about by technology will be beneficial to the market as a whole”, Lawrence Fok, Senior Executive Director, Regulatory Affairs Group, said.
