HKEx Derivatives Market Volume Rises 13.9 Per Cent in 2001

The Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) Derivatives Market's total futures and options contract volume rose 13.9 per cent in 2001 from the previous year.
Among the most active contracts, Three-Month HIBOR Futures volume rose 93.6 per cent, Hang Seng Index Options rose 31.6 per cent and Hang Seng Index Futures volume rose 9.4 per cent.

Mini-HSI Futures' December 2001 volume of 75,222 contracts was up 78 per cent from December 2000, and Mini-HSI Futures average daily volume in December 2001 was 4,179 compared with 2,223 in December 2000.

A total of 629,491 Three-Month HIBOR Futures contracts were traded in 2001 compared with 325,155 in 2000.

A total of 6,945 Stock Futures contracts were traded in 2001 compared with 3,322 in 2000.

The 2001 volume for Three-Year EFN Futures, which were introduced on 19 November, was 1,175 contracts.
