HKEx Announces Senior Executive Appointments and Revised Corporate Structure

Corporate
14 Feb 2007

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) announced today (Wednesday) senior executive appointments and a revised organisation structure.  In line with its Strategic Plan 2007 – 2009, these organisational changes are being implemented to help HKEx to better serve its customers in the primary and secondary markets and further improve its operational efficiency.

Senior Executive Appointments – Secondary Market

The HKEx Board appointed Gerald Greiner at its meeting this morning as Chief Operating Officer of HKEx and Chief Executive of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited in addition to his current position as Chief Executive of Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited (HKFE).  As required under sections 70 and 26 of the Securities and Futures Ordinance, HKEx has submitted the appointments to the Securities and Futures Commission for approval.  Mr Greiner has been Deputy Chief Operating Officer of HKEx, Head of Exchange Division and Chief Executive of HKFE since May 2004.

Eric Yip has been transferred from the Chief Executive’s Office and appointed Head of Cash Market.

Reporting to Mr Greiner will be:

Stewart Shing, Head of Clearing;
  •
Eric Yip, Head of Cash Market;
Calvin Tai, Head of Derivatives Market;
Bryan Chan, Head of Information Services;
  •
Derek Tam, Head of Participant Admission and Surveillance; and
Wallace Chan, Acting Head of Risk Management.

Senior Executive Appointments – Primary Market

Peter Curley will leave his role as Senior Vice President, Listing Division at the end of April 2007.  He will take a leave of absence and spend a year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US as a Sloan Fellow.  HKEx thanks Mr Curley for his contributions over the past three-and-a-half years and wishes him all the best in his further studies.

Bonnie Chan will join HKEx in May 2007 as Senior Vice President, Listing Division, where she will succeed Peter Curley and lead the IPO Transactions Department.  Ms Chan is currently based in Hong Kong with an international investment bank as an executive director in the legal and compliance department.

Roger Lee, currently Senior Vice President, Cash Market Department, has been appointed Senior Vice President, Listing Division to lead the new Listing Operations Department.  The new department will support the operational implementation of listing-related initiatives and work with the Mainland exchanges on various collaboration projects concerning primary market operations.  Mr Lee will report to Richard Williams, Head of Listing.

Revised Organisation Structure

The revised organisation chart attached presents HKEx’s business and operational functions under the new classifications of primary market, secondary market and support services.  The functions under primary market and support services will continue to report to the chief executive.  As the position of deputy chief operating officer has been eliminated, all secondary market functions will report directly to the chief operating officer.

The appointments and revised structure are effective today, except for the changes in the Listing Division’s IPO Transactions Department, which will be effective in May 2007 (please see above for details).
