19 Apr 2007

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) announced today (Thursday) that Michael Cheng will join HKEx in June as Senior Vice President to lead the Listing Policy and Mainland China Affairs Department of the Listing Division, and Bonnie Chan joined HKEx on 16 April as Senior Vice President in charge of the Division’s IPO (initial public offering) Transactions Department (Ms Chan’s appointment was announced earlier).

Mr Cheng is currently the head and an executive director in the legal department of an international investment bank with a strong presence in Mainland China and Hong Kong.  Before joining the bank, Mr Cheng had been in private practice for a number of years in international law firms after working at the Securities and Futures Commission in its Legal Services Division.  He has extensive experience in securities and corporate finance as well as regulatory and compliance matters.

Prior to joining HKEx, Ms Chan was the Executive Director of the Legal and Compliance Department of Morgan Stanley’s Hong Kong office, where she headed the legal coverage team for the investment banking division in Asia excluding Japan.  Before joining Morgan Stanley, she worked at Deutsche Bank and was responsible for origination and execution of equity and equity-linked transactions across Asia. Ms Chan worked in a number of law firms early in her career, including Sullivan & Cromwell in both Hong Kong and New York, and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.

Ms Chan is succeeding Senior Vice President Peter Curley, who will leave the Listing Division on 4 May.  He is taking a leave of absence and will spend a year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a Sloan Fellow.
