HKEx Establishes New Market Development and Adviser Positions

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) has appointed Romnesh Lamba as Executive Vice President, responsible for Market Development, a new position at HKEx, and Stewart Shing as Adviser, also a new position at HKEx.

Mr Lamba will join HKEx on 8 February 2010 and will be a member of the Senior Management Committee.  Mr Shing, who was HKEx's Head of Clearing before he retired last year, will start in his new role on 1 February 2010.  Both will report directly to Charles Li, Chief Executive of HKEx.

Mr Lamba has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.  He worked in the US for nine years before moving to Hong Kong in 1994.  Since November 2008, Mr Lamba has been a Senior Advisor to JP Morgan's Asia ex-Japan Corporate Finance and Capital Markets business, with strategic and operating responsibilities.  He has also worked at Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific for eight years as a Managing Director and served as the Chief Operating Officer of the firm's China Origination business.  At Merrill Lynch, Mr Lamba was involved in several landmark listings of Mainland enterprises in Hong Kong.  Mr Lamba holds Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science degrees from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in the US.

Mr Shing has approximately 40 years of securities operations and business management experience.  He was HKEx's Head of Clearing between December 2003 and April 2009.  He served as Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited (HKSCC) between 1996 and 2001.  Mr Shing has been a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has served asa member of working groups for various regulatory bodies and stockbroker associations in Hong Kong.  Mr Shing holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of New South Wales in Australia.

"Romi has extensive experience and expertise in financial services and strategic issues relating to market development," said HKEx Chief Executive Charles Li.  "During his 16 years in Hong Kong, Romi has worked across Asia's capital markets, with a particular focus on China.  Stewart is well known to HKEx, and I believe his substantial experience in Hong Kong markets, combined with Romi's broad background, will be instrumental in enhancing the future growth and development of HKEx."
