HKEx Publishes Market Statistics 2012

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) published a set of market statistics for 2012 (up to 14 December) on its website today (Thursday) in response to media requests.

Some new records were set in the derivatives market in 2012, including trading turnover of H-shares Index Futures and Options and the Mini-Hang Seng Index Options.  In addition, various futures and options contracts reached new record highs in terms of open interest this year.

In the securities market, 108 debt securities were newly listed, a new record.  The turnover of REITs and debt securities reached record highs of $63.3 billion and $2.7 billion respectively.

Here are some additional highlights from the securities market in 2012: 

1. As at 14 December 2012, there were 1,543 companies listed on HKEx’s securities market with a total market capitalisation (Main Board and Growth Enterprise Market) of $21.7 trillion.
2. The total equity funds raised in the securities market was $285.7 billion from 1 January 2012 to 14 December 2012.Of this, $83.4 billion was raised through IPOs and $202.3 billion from post-IPO fundraising.
3. From 1 January 2012 to 14 December 2012, the average daily securities market turnover was $53.8 billion.
