Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) deeply regrets the passing of Sir Q W Lee, who contributed significantly to the development of Hong Kong’s securities market when he was the chairman of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited between October 1988 and December 1991.

"Sir Q W was instrumental in the structural reforms that greatly improved the Stock Exchange's governance arrangements after the 1987 stock market crash," said HKEx Chairman C K Chow.  "He was also a visionary, advocating electronic trading and central clearing and settlement, two important parts of the foundation that enabled our stock market to become one of the world’s leaders.

"We were saddened to learn of Sir Q W’s passing and extend our deepest sympathy to his family."

Note: The Stock Exchange has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of HKEx since 2000.
