Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEx) announced that the second round market rehearsal (MR2) for Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect has been completed smoothly.  The MR2, which was held yesterday (Saturday), was primarily arranged to verify contingency arrangements upon simulated system failover from primary to backup data centre and system capacity.

The completion of MR2 marked the end of the market rehearsal programme for Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect.  A total of 97 Exchange Participants (EPs), accounting for about 80 per cent of the total securities market turnover, and 108 CCASS Participants* participated in both the first round market rehearsal (MR1) and MR2.

Following its normal practice, HKEx will do a detailed analysis of the results from the market rehearsals, including reviewing the feedback forms submitted by Exchange and CCASS Participants, and take appropriate follow-up actions if necessary.

Both the market rehearsals (MR1 and MR2) were arranged for participants to ascertain their system readiness for Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, and for HKEx to demonstrate the technical readiness of its market infrastructure.  The rehearsals covered the Northbound and Southbound trading processes as well as clearing and settlement cycles in Hong Kong and Shanghai.  System capacity and contingency arrangements for failovers were also covered.

Meanwhile, a Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect practice session will be available for Participants next weekend, 20-21 September 2014.  The end-to-end testing environment is still open to Participants on a daily basis until further notice.

* CCASS stands for Central Clearing and Settlement System.
