• Trevor Spanner and Richard Leung appointed Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Deputy CIO to consolidate oversight of IT management and platform development across HKEX group
• Roger Lee and Calvin Tai appointed Joint Chief Operating Officers at HKEX in addition to ongoing roles as Head of Markets and Head of Clearing respectively

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) has established two new positions, Group Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Deputy CIO positions, and created the new IT and Platform Development Division which consolidates group-wide oversight of information technology (IT) management and platform development at HKEX and its major subsidiaries, including the London Metal Exchange (LME), LME Clear and the Qianhai Mercantile Exchange.

Trevor Spanner, formerly Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Group Risk Officer (GRO), has been appointed CIO and will head the new IT and Platform Development Division. Mr Spanner will no longer serve as COO but will continue to serve as GRO on an interim basis until an appropriate successor is appointed. All CTOs of the group’s operations in Hong Kong, London and Mainland China will report to Mr Spanner and will continue to report to the chief executive of their respective subsidiaries of the group.

Richard Leung, formerly co-head of IT, has been appointed Deputy CIO. Mr Leung will assist Mr Spanner to head the new IT and Platform Development Division and will also become Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of HKEX’s operations in Hong Kong, succeeding Bill Chow who retired recently. Mr Leung will report to HKEX Chief Executive Charles Li in his capacity of CTO for Hong Kong.

Roger Lee and Calvin Tai have been appointed Joint COOs in addition to their ongoing roles as HKEX’s Head of Markets and Head of Clearing respectively.

"The new CIO structure will allow us to secure a more effective and efficient management of our technology and platform development agendas in terms of strategy, implementation, innovation, vendor and resource management and best practice benchmarks across the group," said Mr Li.

"Trevor, Richard, Roger and Calvin are all key members of the senior management of the group and are very well qualified for their new roles," added Mr Li. "We thank Bill Chow for his many contributions to our IT operations and system reliability and we congratulate Trevor, Richard, Roger and Calvin on their new responsibilities."
