Stock market information vendors have reported their Y2K compliance status to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Status reports were published on the Exchange web site to increase the transparency of vendors' services.
The progress report of the Y2K compliance projects of vendors, and information about their participation in the street wide tests for the financial services industry are now available at the Exchange's web site at http://www.sehk.com.hk.
A spokesman for the Exchange said the disclosure of vendors' Y2K compliance status would provide the public with information about the standards of vendors' services.
At present, the Exchange has licensed a total of 51 vendors to provide real-time and delayed information to end-users. Only licensed vendors of the Exchange are permitted to provide real-time information services to the public.
When procuring real-time information, the Exchange spokesman strongly advised that investors only deal with licensed vendors. Investors may refer to the attached list of licensed vendors which is also available on the Exchange web site.
"Unlicensed vendors will not provide clients with reliable services,"the Exchange spokesman said. "These services have infringed the Exchange's rights to the data compiled by the Exchange system and it will take appropriate action against such infringement."
