Year’s Derivatives Turnover Reaches All-time High

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited’s (HKEx) derivatives market turnover reached an all-time high of 116,054,377contracts in the year, surpassing the previous high of 105,006,736 contracts in 2008.
Turnover of stock options and Hang Seng Index options also reached record levels.
Major contributors to this year’s record high turnover include stock options (about 52.67 per cent of the total), Hang Seng Index futures (about 18.12 per cent) and H-shares Index futures (about 10.71 per cent).
In 2010, turnover on the derivatives market was up about 17.78 per cent from last year. The growth was mainly driven by increases in trading of Hang Seng Index options (up 58.64 per cent), H-shares Index options (up 48.42 per cent) and stock options (up 28.85 per cent).
