Corporate
10 Sep 2025

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) was delighted to host today (Wednesday) the Climate Finance Forum, driving industry conversations on the pivotal role of climate finance in mobilising capital and accelerating the transition to a net-zero future.

The forum, themed on the journey to achieving net zero, is a highlight of the Hong Kong Green Week, and welcomed over 200 local and international participants to HKEX Connect Hall. HKEX Chief Executive Officer, Bonnie Y Chan, delivered opening remarks, with distinguished guests and speakers that included Hong Kong Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury (Financial Services), Salina Yan, as well as business leaders and sustainability experts.

Together, they explored the role of Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs), the rapidly evolving landscape of low-carbon investing, and other key themes shaping climate-focused investment strategies.

HKEX Chief Executive Officer, Bonnie Y Chan, said: “Climate finance is a powerful catalyst as we confront the urgent realities of climate change. By mobilising capital, we unlock opportunities to invest in technologies that will accelerate our net-zero transition. At HKEX, we are committed to supporting issuers, investors, and market participants in advancing sustainable finance through well-defined standards, robust frameworks, and platforms such as today’s Forum to drive meaningful dialogue across the ecosystem. I’d like to thank our distinguished participants from around the world for contributing to such fruitful discussion, and I look forward to driving tangible progress towards a greener, more sustainable future, together.”

HKEX also published today Carbon Credits: A Buyer’s Guide, which details the concept and mechanisms of carbon credits. The Guide will help companies make more informed decisions when selecting carbon credits that align with their corporate values and sustainability objectives.

HKEX Group Chief Sustainability Officer, Paul Chow, said: “HKEX is pleased to play a leading role in advancing the region’s green transition by channeling capital towards impactful climate solutions. We are therefore delighted to launch the comprehensive Buyer’s Guide, designed to demystify carbon credits, highlight use cases, and support corporates and investors in making more informed decisions to meet their sustainability objectives.”

Launched in October 2022, Core Climate is Hong Kong's international carbon marketplace. It offers a one-stop solution for organisations transitioning to a low-carbon economy, enabling them to purchase, settle, hold and retire carbon credits. The platform now hosts over 100 participants and features high-quality carbon credits from more than 60 internationally certified projects.

Earlier this year, HKEX also announced it had achieved carbon neutrality across the Group's operations as of the end of 2024, a major milestone in its climate action journey and a testament to its commitment to supporting the global net-zero transition.
