History

After the unification of various local exchanges, The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong (SEHK) was incorporated and all brokers started their on-floor trading at our initial Trading Hall in 1986.  Over 1,200 floor traders worked there in the early days.  Later, when off-floor trading was available, fewer brokers were required to trade at the Trading Hall.  Hence, the Trading Hall was renovated and reopened in January 2006; it was renamed as “The Exchange Trading and Exhibition Hall Complex”, whereby the trading area was reduced by over half.  The Trading Hall was finally closed once and for all on 27 October 2017, marking the end of an era of floor trading in the Hong Kong securities markets.  The current Connect Hall, transformed from the old Trading Hall, was opened in February 2018.
